TYLER, Texas (July 20, 2018) - A pair of UT Tyler Baseball alumni progressed in their professional baseball careers this past week. Cody Brown signed an affiliated contract with the Seattle Mariners while Danny Williams moved to the United Shore Professional Baseball League.

Cody Brown pitched for UT Tyler during the 2017 season where he earned four American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week Awards, was named to the ASC All-Conference team, was a member of the D3Baseball All-Region Team, and earned a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team.

Following his career at UT Tyler, Brown signed with the Utica Unicorns of the USPBL where he pitched in 21 games in two seasons. Brown struck out 105 batters while posting an ERA of 2.94. Most recently, Brown earned a win in a six inning outing on July 13 where he tallied seven strikeouts.

After playing the 2017 season and part of the 2018 season, Brown has signed an affiliated contract with Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners. Brown will join the clubs Short Season A team, the Everett AquaSox. Brown becomes the sixth Patriot Basebal player to sign an MLB contract.

Head Coach Brent Porche commented, "We are extremely excited for Cody. He has worked very hard to put himself in position for this opportunity. This is just the first step in what is hopefully a long and successful journey in professional baseball. We look forward to his progression and following his career. We are glad that UT Tyler and the Patriot Baseball Program was able to play a small part in giving him this opportunity."

After signing with the Salina Stockade of the Candian American Professional Baseball League earlier this season, Danny Williams will now don a Utica Unicorns uniform. Williams originally signed with the Garden City Wind of the Pecos League before joining the Stockade. Now Williams will play with the same organization as former teammate Cody Brown in the USPBL.

The Unicorns play in the USPBL which is a four-team independent professional baseball league that places an emphasis on player development. The Michigan based league hosts a season in which all games are played in a centralized stadium. Williams played just nine games with the Stockade before joining the Unicorns.

Porche commented, "We are excited for Danny to have an opportunity to play in the USPBL, a league that helped continue the development of Cody Brown who joins an affiliated organization. We feel like Danny is in great hands and has already enjoyed tremendous success in his early career. We believe this is the right place for him to continue his development.

Porche added, "It is great to see our former players enjoying so much success after their Patriot Baseball careers. With Cody being the sixth Patriot to sign with an MLB organization and Danny joining the same program Cody grew so well in, more success is inevitable for these two players. We wish them the best as their careers progress and we are excited to continue the success of our program in the coming years.

Both Brown and Williams were part of the 2017 American Southwest Conference Championship team.
