AUSTIN – The UT Tyler baseball team advanced to the American Southwest Conference Blue Bracket Championship finals with a 12-5 win over Ozarks on Saturday in an elimination game at Tornado Field.

The Patriots (28-15) will play Concordia at 1 p.m. on Sunday needing to win two games to emerge from the Blue Bracket into next week’s ASC Gold Bracket Championship. The Tornados earned a 5-4 over UT Tyler in the first game on Saturday and need just one win to advance.

UT Tyler staved off elimination with a 16-hit performance from the offense and Nate Imig (4-0) throwing a complete game with six strikeouts. Imig’s first complete game of the season saw him walk only two and scatter eight hits as the offense was producing runs and he stayed in the game to take away the need for relievers who will be needed on Sunday.

Jared Pauley, Tanner Roach and Blake Wilson led the Patriots with three hits each, while Bowie Farris and Henry Sanchez had two hits. Alex Bishop hit a two-run home run and finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Bishop, who also hit a two-run homer against Concordia in the first game of the day, now has five home runs this season for the Patriots.

UT Tyler broke open the game in the fourth with six runs after having a 3-2 lead going into the inning. The big inning started with Pauley scoring on a wild pitch and then Josh Burns driving in a run with a single to left. Farris would pick up an RBI with an infield single, followed by a two-run single by Sanchez through the right-side of the infield. A double steal resulted in the sixth run of the inning when Sanchez stole home and Welch stole second.

Bishop would cap the day with an RBI triple to center field in the bottom of the seventh to score Burns.

Ozarks was eliminated with the loss and ended its season with a 20-20 record.
