TYLER – UT Tyler drove in six runs with two outs and its pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts in a 9-5 win over Louisiana College on Sunday to take the American Southwest Conference series 2-1 at Irwin Field.

Graham Welch led the Patriots by going 2-for-3 with three two-out RBIs, while Jared Pauley drove in two runs in a three-run seventh with two outs on the scoreboard also. Pauley finished the game 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot, capping his day with a two-out, two-run shot to right-center field to scored Henry Sanchez and Alex Bishop for the game’s final runs. UT Tyler finished the game having scored the final six runs after LC had taken a 5-3 lead with four runs in the top of the fifth inning of the series finale.

“We are starting to really pitch it well out of the bullpen and that is big this time of year,” UT Tyler coach Brent Porche said. “We had some big time at bats from some guys with runners in scoring position today. That’s it takes to win games in the post season. I’m excited about what we are doing right now and I'm proud of these guys for continuing to fight all the time.”

The Patriots (22-11, 12-6 ASC) finished the game hitting .533 with two outs on the board and with 16 total hits. Bowie Farris raised his team-leading batting average to .432 on the season after going 3-for-5, including his 11th double. Farris extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the three-hit performance, while Josh Burns and Bishop each had two hits to give UT Tyler five batters with multi-hit games.

While the offense continued to click, the Patriot pitchers continued their dominance from Saturday night with 13 more strikeouts in the finale. UT Tyler starter Nate Imig did not receive a decision in the game, but struck out five and limited the Wildcats to three hits in 4 1/3 innings before turning the baseball over to Chris Stodolka (1-0) who earned the win after striking out three and allowing only one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Alex Masotto would add three more strikeouts to the total in two innings and Austin Schneider had two more in one inning, finishing with a strikeout to end the game.

UT Tyler finished the three-game series hitting .375 as a team, while the pitching staff struck out 35 in 25 total innings. The 13-strikeout performance on Sunday came after the Simon Sedillo had 12 and Stodolka four to combine for 16 on Saturday night. Wilson and Farris led the Patriots with seven hits each in the series, while Welch led the team with five RBIs on six hits. Pauley went 6-for-13 in the series and is now hitting .388 while Wilson is at .375 after a 7-for-12 series against LC.

UT Tyler will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday for its series opener against Concordia at Irwin Field before playing a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The final home weekend of the season will include Senior Day on Saturday and also matches up the Patriots against the Tornados (23-11, 16-5 ASC) who are atop the ASC standings after sweeping Howard Payne this weekend. UTT has now won four straight conference series and 10 of its last 12 ASC games.
