TYLER – K was a letter heard 16 times with UT Tyler starter Simon Sedillo striking out 12 and reliever Chris Stodolka fanning four more to lead the Patriots to an 8-3 win over Louisiana College in the second game of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday after the Wildcats had won a 5-3 decision in the opener at Irwin Field. UTT improved to 21-11 overall and to 11-6 in ASC going into Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale.

The 16 combined strikeouts by Sedillo and Stodolka tied the program's fourth most in a single game with the most ever being 24 in a 16-inning game back in 2008 against Concordia. The nine-inning program record is 17 against LeTourneau in 2015 and Hardin-Simmons in 2008. Sedillo (5-1) recorded his career-best 12 strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings where he scattered seven hits and walked only two. Only six performances in program history topped his 12 strikeouts, with the program record being 15 by Brett Holland in 2008. Stodolka would strike out four in only 1 2/3, including striking out two and stranding two in the eighth to get the Patriots out of trouble with runners at second and third.

Graham Welch led the UT Tyler offense by going 3-for-4 in the game, while Bowie Farris had two doubles and Blake Wilson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Wilson finished the day 6-for-8 and Farris had two hits in both games to extend a seven-game hitting streak. Farris opened scoring in the first with his first double to score Wilson, while Jordan Antley and Alex Bishop drove in one run each in the second and third inning to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead going to the fourth. In the fourth, UT Tyler opened the game up with three runs on four hits to take a 6-1 lead. After a Welch single to lead off the inning, Zach Pavelock brought him in with a single before Wilson drove in two more with an RBI single up the middle.

UTT would tack on two insurance runs late in the game, first an infield single by Welch to first base that scored Josh Burns in the seventh and then Antley scoring on an error in the eighth.

Sedillo earned his fifth win of the season with the victory and now has 47 strikeouts and a 2.31 ERA through 10 starts and 62 1/3 innings.

In the opener, LC scored two runs in the top of the seventh to win by two after the Patriots had opened with three runs in the first inning. Wilson led the Patriots by going 4-for-4 in the game, while Farris was 2-for-4 and Bishop went 2-for-3. UT Tyler stranded nine runners on base in the loss and finished with two errors.

UT Tyler starter Ryan Cheatham had two strikeouts in the game and did not receive a decision after going five innings, while Sam Sitton (4-1) took his first loss of the season after allowing two hits and two earned runs. LC scored its two runs with UT Tyler pitcher Alex Masotto being called for a balk with a runner on third and then throwing a wild pitch to score the fifth run.

The Patriots and Wildcats will conclude the series with a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday at Irwin Field.
