ABILENE – Graham Welch and Jared Pauley had four hits each and Bowie Farris drove in three runs on three hits to help lead UT Tyler to a 14-5 series-opening win over McMurry on Friday at Walt Driggers Field with the Patriots finishing the game with a season-best 21 hits.

UT Tyler (13-8) has now won three straight games going into a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the War Hawks (7-14) on Saturday to complete the series.

UT Tyler senior Ryan Cheatham (3-3) earned the win after striking out seven and limiting McMurry to three earned runs in five innings, while Jordan Antley threw two scoreless innings of relief followed by Austin Schneider and Evan Kissinger who threw one scoreless inning each.

Welch, who was the leadoff hitter on Friday, went 4-for-5 and scored four runs for the Patriots who scored over 10 runs for the fourth time this season and 14 runs for the third time. Welch is now hitting .309 for the season, while Pauley is at .367 after the pair of four-hit games from the UT Tyler left-handed hitters. Farris, who hit the walk-off home run last Saturday against Concordia, raised his average to .410 after going 3-for-4 in the game and is now 7-for-10 with seven RBIs in the past two games.

Josh Burns went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Henry Sanchez was 2-for-5 in the game.

UT Tyler senior Simon Sedillo is scheduled to start Saturday’s opener followed by Nate Imig in the series finale. The Patriots will return from Abilene to host Centenary on Thursday before playing a doubleheader against the Gents on Friday.
