TYLER – The UT Tyler baseball team dropped a pair of American Southwest Conference games to East Texas Baptist in a doubleheader on Saturday at Irwin Field after opening the series with a win on Friday.

The Patriots (8-5, 1-2 ASC) fell 4-2 in Saturday’s opener before a 5-3 loss gave the Tiger (9-7, 3-3 ASC) the series win. UT Tyler will return to action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with a non-conference home game against Millsaps before traveling to play Hardin-Simmons next weekend in Abilene.

ETBU took the second game of the series 4-2 over the Patriots with KJ Miller leading the Tigers with three hits and two RBI. The Tigers would score one run in the third and two in the fourth to grab the lead, while the Patriots were unable to score until the sixth inning off an RBI single from Jared Pauley to score Ben Romines for the first run from the home team. Jordan Antley would score the second run from third on a pickoff of Pauley at second base, but the Patriots were unable to get anything else going in the loss.

Blake Wilson led the Patriots by going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot of the lineup, while Graham Welch, Romines, Antley, Pauley and Bowie Farris had one hit each. UT Tyler and ETBU each had eight hits in the game.

UT Tyler starter Max Page (1-2) received the loss after allowing three earned runs and six hits in four innings of work. Page took his second loss of the season after striking out three in a 66-pitch outing, while Brandon Saddler allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings and Sam Sitton went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run. Blaine Parker (3-1) earned the win for the Tigers after going 4 2/3 without allowing a run.

In Saturday’s second game, the Patriots would score one run in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings but would also strand six in the loss. The Patriots were limited to six hits in the game with Antley leading the team with a 2-for-4 game, while Josh Burns, Alex Bishop and Farris each had one hit. UT Tyler starter Simon Sedillo (1-1) took the loss for the Patriots after allowing four earned run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.

ETBU’s John Marrs (2-0) earned the win after limiting the Patriots to five hits and three runs in 7 1/3 innings, while four Tigers finished the game with two hits each. Casey Combs and Miller led the team with two RBI each as the Tigers took the series after dropping two of three against HSU last weekend.
