ALL-AMERICA: Williams slugs his way to national prominence

Thursday, May 25, 2017

TYLER – With his big swings, towering home runs and high-level of offensive production, Daniel Williams earned the nickname of “The Babe” midway through his senior season. Now, with his season complete and staggering statistics atop the program’s record book, he can now be called All-America.

D3Baseball.com All-America Team

Williams was named a D3baseball.com All-America Second-Team on Thursday after putting together a season where he matched the UT Tyler single-season record with 79 hits and led the Patriots in home runs and RBI. A left-handed designated hitter, Williams is the 11th All-America selection in program history.

“Danny was the constant in our line-up all year long,” UT Tyler head coach Brent Porche said. “We had some big players to down with injuries throughout the year and Danny had to carry a heavy load at times. He isn't just talented, but an intelligent hitter and I'm glad he is getting the recognition he deserves for the great season he put together.”

A senior from Katy, Williams put together one of the best offensive seasons in program history with 13 doubles, eight home runs 58 singles and 53 RBI as the team’s designated hitter. Williams hit .395 in 200 at-bats and had 23 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI performances. He played two seasons for the Patriots after transferring in as a junior and finished his two-year career with 11 home runs, 72 RBI and 26 doubles. Williams was also named to the ASC first-team.
