@UTTylerPatriots set to host NCAA DIII Tyler Regional

TYLER – The UT Tyler Patriots will host the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tyler Regional with Rhodes College, Cal Lutheran, Concordia, Centenary and Linfield set to compete in the double-elimination starting on Thursday at Irwin Field.

The Patriots will open the tournament against Rhodes College (25-19) at 11 a.m. on Thursday, while Cal Lutheran (30-10) will face Concordia (28-16). The final first-round matchup has Centenary (34-8) taking on Linfield (30-13). UT Tyler is 2-1 against the Tornados this season with all three games coming in the American Southwest Conference tournament and is 1-1 against the Gents. The Patriots have not played Rhodes, CLU or Linfield this season.

The Patriots (39-7) are coming off winning their third straight and sixth overall American Southwest Conference Championship. UT Tyler earned a 6-1 win over ETBU in the tournament’s final game and is now 25-3 on its home field this season. The 39 wins match a single-season program record set in 2009 and the team will be playing to try to make the first NCAA DIII Championship appearance.  

The winner of the Tyler Regional will advance to the NCAA DIII Championship which will be played from May 26-31 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin.
