MARSHALL – The No. 3-ranked UT Tyler baseball team completed its regular season by splitting against East Texas Baptist in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Woods Field. The Patriots took the opener 8-3 but then had their seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 7-5 loss in the regular-season finale.

UT Tyler (33-6) won the ASC regular-season championship with a 21-3 conference record and will host half of the first-round tournament next week at Irwin Field. A bracket will be completed and released on Saturday.

He finished the regular season with 69 strikeouts and with a 2.73 ERA in 62 2/3 innings after scattering five hits over 111 pitches and seven innings. Brown’s offense gave him a 6-0 lead through three innings. Alex Bishop went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Graham Welch and Blake Wilson had two hits each to lead the Patriots who had 11 hits in the game.

ETBU scored six runs in the ninth inning to take the finale by a 7-5 margin after UT Tyler starter Cason Adams exited having recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits in eight innings of work. Adams needed only 89 pitches to get through eight innings, but would not get a decision in the performance.
