TYLER – Coming off a walk-off win and on a seven-game winning streak, the No. 4-ranked UT Tyler baseball team will host Millsaps in a 4 p.m. non-conference game on Tuesday at Irwin Field.

The Patriots (25-4) went on the road and topped the Majors (12-17) in a 5-3 game in Jackson, Mississippi last Tuesday before sweeping Hardin-Simmons in a three-game American Southwest Conference series at home. UT Tyler, which scored three runs in the ninth for 6-5 series finale win over the Cowboys last Saturday is now 15-2 at Irwin Field this season coming into Tuesday’s game against Millsaps which dropped two of three to Hendrix after losing to the Patriots.

UT Tyler is hitting .317 as a team and has outscored its opponents by a 189-95 margin. The only two home losses have come in non-conference Tuesday night games, including their last loss, a 6-5 defeat to No. 8 Centenary.

UT Tyler sophomore Turner Givens is scheduled to make the start against the Majors who he threw two innings of relief against last week. A right-hander from Spring, Givens will be making his fourth appearance of the season and his first start. He has three strikeouts and has allowed only four hits in 5 1/3 innings. Givens started only game as a freshman and will be making the eighth appearance of his career on Tuesday.

Daniel Williams drove in four more runs last week and now leads the Patriots with 36 RBI this season. A left-hander from Katy, Williams also leads the team with a .431 average that includes five home runs, five doubles and 40 singles. Graham Welch has a five-game hitting streak going and is coming off hitting a two-run triple to tie the series finale against HSU in his last at-bat. A sophomore outfielder, Welch is hitting .378 with two triples, two doubles and two home runs in nine games this season.

Trenton Buchhorn leads the team with a seven-game hitting streak and is at .424 on the season. A senior from Arlington, Buchhorn was an all-region selection last season and has nine doubles, two triples and three home runs for the Patriots this season. Ben Romines is on a five-game streak and is hitting .370 with 30 hits and 15 RBI, while Blake Wilson is at .298 with 25 hits. Tim Hunter leads the nation with 37 walks after drawing eight last week for the Patriots from the leadoff spot in the lineup, while Gunnar Quick has started all 29 games this year and has 28 hits and 14 RBI. Quick, Hunter and Williams are the only Patriots to have 29 starts and have all been key components to the 25-4 record. Hunter also leads the team with 11 stolen bases, while Quick has six and Williams and Jared Pauley have five steals.

UT Tyler will return to action this weekend when the Patriots travel to play Louisiana College in a three-game ASC series in Pineville, Louisiana. The series starts with a 6 p.m. game on Friday before a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
