CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – UT Tyler senior Trenton Buchhorn had six hits and drove in six runs to lead the No. 2-ranked Patriots to a doubleheader sweep of Ozarks with 13-4 and 9-3 wins on Saturday in their American Southwest Conference series openers at Lonnie Qualls Field.

The Patriots (20-4, 10-1 ASC) finished the day with five home runs, including Buchhorn hitting a grand slam, Kyle Broussard hitting the first two of his career and Daniel Williams and Ben Romines hitting one each. UT Tyler has now won nine straight ASC games going into Sunday’s finale which is scheduled for noon in Arkansas with Cason Adams (4-0) scheduled to start.

UT Tyler would jump out to a 10-0 lead through two innings in the opener highlighted by Buchhorn’s grand slam in the second inning and then Broussard and Romines hitting their first home runs of the season. Buchhorn finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored, while Blake Wilson was 3-for-4 and Graham Welch, Romines and Broussard each had two hits each. Broussard would hit his second home run of the game to lead off the sixth inning and give the Patriots a 13-3 lead. Buchhorn has now had five RBI three times in his career after also having five last year in games against Howard Payne and UT Dallas.

Cody Brown (3-2) earned the win on the mound for the Patriots after striking out five and working around nine hits in six innings of work. Brown, who leads the Patriots with 40 strikeouts through 34 2/3 innings of work this season, would turn the ball over to Cade Suggs who struck out two in the seventh inning to end it. Offensively, the Patriots pounded out 13 hits and bumped the Ozarks starter after only 1 1/3 innings.

Williams would go off in the second game of the day by going 4-for-5 with four RBI. He would blast a two-run home run in the first inning for the fourth of his season and also had two doubles in the game. A senior from Katy, Williams now has 31 RBI through 24 games while Buchhorn has 25 runs for the Patriots who have outscored their opponents by a 158-79 margin this season. Buchhorn was 3-for-5 in the second game with one RBI, while Tim Hunter went 2-for-5 and drove in one run.
