TYLER – Tim Hunter drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to give No. 8 UT Tyler a 3-2 victory over Northland College Wednesday night at Irwin Field.

The Patriots improved to 13-2, their fourth-best start after 15 games in program history. They have won six in a row and 12 of their last 13.

The Patriots struck first, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a pair of walks and a wild pitch, Tim Hunter scored on a groundout by Daniel Williams and Alex Bishop scored on a single by Trenton Buchhorn.

The Lumberjacks cut the Patriots’ lead in half with a run in the top of the fourth and then tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the ninth, with Northland pitcher Kyle Moore over 100 pitches, the Patriots drew four consecutive walks with one out. The fourth, to Hunter, allowed Henry Sanchez to stroll home with the winning run.

Five UT Tyler pitchers combined to allow just four hits, but they walked seven batters. Max Page started and went into the sixth before being relieved. He allowed a run on two hits before leaving with a no-decision.

The victory went to Reese Read, who came in with two outs and two on in the top of the ninth and got a line out to end the inning. Read came in after Hunter Palmer struck out five in his two innings of relief.

The Patriots and Lumberjacks will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. at Irwin Field.
