@uttylerbaseball to host Clements Fluids Classic

TYLER – The UT Tyler baseball program will host five games this weekend at the Clements Fluids Classic with the Patriots playing their home opener against Trinity at 6 p.m. on Friday before playing Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday and Centenary on Sunday at Irwin Field.

The No. 18-ranked Patriots (2-1) are coming off an opening weekend where they knocked off the No. 11-ranked Tigers by a 6-2 score in the opener and then won 8-1 over Maryville College in the finale in Jackson, Mississippi. UT Tyler, which went 16-8 at home last season, are scheduled to host 21 games this year but will not be at home again after this weekend until Friday, Feb. 3.

UT Tyler finished the three-game weekend with a .308 batting average while the pitching staff held opponents to a .226 average. Daniel Williams led the team with seven hits, while Ben Romines, Brady McCoy, Trenton Buchhorn, Alex Bishop and Jared Pauley each had four hits. Bishop hit two home runs and now has 10 in his career, while Williams hit the fourth of his career. Cason Adams earned the win over Trinity while Ryan Cheatham earned the victory over Maryville after striking out five and limiting them to four hits in six innings of work.
