JACKSON, Miss. – UT Tyler junior Ryan Cheatham pitched six innings, giving up only four hits and one run as the Patriots end their road trip in Mississippi with an 8-1 win over Maryville on Sunday at Smith Wills Stadium. Cheatham, a native of Whitehouse, struck out five batters to earn the win in his first start as a Patriot.

Senior designated hitter Daniel Williams and junior first baseman Alex Bishop both went 3-5 with a 2-run home run, two RBIs and two runs. Trenton Buchhorn also went 3-5 at the plate, hitting two doubles and scoring a run.

Senior pitchers Blake Brunnemann and Reese Read, and sophomore pitcher Max Page each pitched an inning of relief, combining to only walk one batter, strike out two and allow zero hits in the last three innings.

The offensive output was a much-improved sight to see, as the Patriots only mustered four hits and two runs in a 4-2 loss to Berry College on Saturday.

The Patriots end their road-trip to Mississippi with a 2-1 record, and now head home, with their next game on Friday against Trinity as a part of the Clements Fluids Classic. The Patriots beat Trinity, the defending national champions, 6-2 in their season opener this past Friday.
