Jackson, MS- The No. 13 UT Tyler baseball team drop a doubleheader against Belhaven University losing game one 5-2 before turning around and dropping game two 19-6. The Patriots won the first game of the series yesterday 5-4, but lose the series and move to 19-10 overall.

In game one both teams played lock tight defense, going scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Blazers had a big inning and put five runs on the board. The Patriots interchanged several pitchers and tried to contain the runs, but would only get out after too much damage was done.

Alex Bishop would lead off in the top of the seventh and hit his 14th double of the season. He put himself in scoring position, but it wouldn’t matter what base he was standing on because Trenton Buchhorn would step to the plate and with a 3-1 count, drive one over the right center wall to score himself along with Bishop making the game 5-2. Buchhorn now has 38 RBI on the season. That would be all the runs the Patriots would get on before the Blazers would get the out to end the game.

The Patriots only had three hits throughout the contest with Graham Welch getting one along with Bishop and Buchhorn compared to the Blazers 10 hits.

Nate Imig is credited in the loss and drops to 4-1 after pitching five innings and giving up five hits off of eight hits and striking out two batters during his outing. Hunter Palmer and Blake Brunnemann would also make appearances in the sixth inning with Palmer picking up a strikeout and Brunnemann getting the Patriots out of the inning.

In game two both teams got on board early with the Blazers striking first and scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Bishop would single through the right side and Dalton Williams would double to left field putting Bishop at third. Braxton Hollenshead would hit a sacrifice fly to left field that would score Bishop and be Hollenshead’s 13th RBI of the season. The Patriots would then have two on when Kyle Broussard got the walk, but the Blazers ended it with a fly out to right.

Chad Hayes would have a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the second after two ground outs and one put-out to put the Patriots back on the offensive side, but the Blazers defense did the exact same thing, getting back to the dug out and attempt to extend their lead.

In the top of the fourth Buchhorn and Williams would get on base with a single and a double with only one out. Hollenshead would then double to left center and pick up 2 RBI as Buchhorn and Williams score to tie the game at 3-3. The Blazers would answer and put another six runs on the board to lead 9-3.

Buchhorn and Williams would both have doubles in the fifth to score runs and make the score 9-6. The Blazers would then have a huge run and end the game in the fifth after scoring 10 runs to make the final 19-6. The Patriots had six hits off of 12 hits and two errors while the Blazers had 19 runs off of 18 hits and no errors.

UT Tyler will be back at home next weekend for an alumni celebration as they host the University of the Ozarks with game one on Friday at 6 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
