TYLER – UT Tyler sophomore Nate Imig earned the first American Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week honor of his career on Monday after securing a win over LeTourneau last Friday for the Patriots at Irwin Field. Imig (4-0) is now 8-0 in his career and follows Cason Adams who was named the ASC Pitcher of the Week last week to give the Patriots back-to-back ASC honors for the first time this season.

“He has really worked his way to the way he is pitching for us right now,” UT Tyler head coach Chris Bertrand said. “Nate had a strong spring and a good start to the season, but went through a hump there for a couple of weeks. He stayed with it though and earned the opportunity to start for us. He keeps earning opportunities by the way he is working and performing.”

UT Tyler is on a bye week and will return to action next week with a road series at Belhaven before returning home to host Ozarks on April 15-16.

Imig recorded the first complete-game shutout win of his career in a 9-0 win over the YellowJackets for the Patriots in the second game of the series. In only his second start of the season, Imig struck out four and limited the YellowJackets to a .125 batting average. Imig allowed only three hits in the seven-inning game and also walked only one. He made his first start of the season last week at Texas Dallas where he struck out five in six innings after making six appearances from the bullpen.

“He simply pounded the strike zone with three pitches,” Bertrand said. “That was our game plan for him going in. We wanted him to attack them and keep them off-balance with his three pitches. He had success doing it and really came through for our team by executing the plan perfectly.”

UT Tyler freshman Graham Welch was relegated to the “other top performances” on the ASC release after he continued to put up one of the best freshman seasons in the nation after hitting .429 (6-for-14) in last week's 2-1 series win over LeTourneau. Welch leads Division III with six triples after delivering another one to lead off the second game of the series and now has 32 hits and 18 RBI as the Patriot leadoff hitter. Welch also had two doubles last week against LETU and has eight on the season for the Patriots.
