AUSTIN – The No. 16-ranked UT Tyler baseball team lost its first series of the season after dropping a 12-1 decision against Concordia on Sunday in the American Southwest Conference three-game series finale at Tornado Field.

The Patriots (12-6, 4-2 ASC) were outhit 16-7 in the game that was called after seven innings after CTX (9-8, 4-2 ASC) scored four runs in the third inning and then exploded for six in the fifth to earn the run-rule victory. UT Tyler will return to action this week by hosting Denison (OH) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Irwin Field and will then travel to Richardson where they’ll return to ASC play with a three-game set against Texas-Dallas.

Tyler Stallings (3-1) took his first loss of the season on Sunday after surrendering five earned runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings to the Tornados in his sixth start of the season. Stallings struck out two to take his season total to 20, but would be tagged with the defeat after exiting in the third inning with the Patriots down 5-0.

Trenton Buchhorn led the Patriots with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a double and single, while Josh Burns was 1-for-2 with a fourth-inning RBI single for the only Patriot run of the game.

The Tornados took the series 2-1 after opening the series with a 6-1 win on Saturday in the opener followed by the Patriots evening the series with a 7-5 win that night. UT Tyler is now 3-3 on the road this season.
