PINEVILLE, La. – The No. 17-ranked UT Tyler baseball team opened a non-conference series against Louisiana College with a 12-2 win on Friday at Billy Allgood Field on a night where Alex Bishop had three hits and Dalton Smith drove in three runs.

The Patriots (10-4) bounced back from a midweek loss at Centenary to record their first road win of the season behind a six-strikeout performance from Cason Adams (2-0) who struck out six and scattered five hits in six innings of work. Adams has now recorded 23 strikeouts this season through five starts.

UT Tyler would strike for five runs in the third and six in the fifth to open up the game against the Wildcats which is not counting towards the ASC standings. Bishop went 3-for-5 in the game with two RBI, while Smith had two hits and three RBI to lead the offensive output. Graham Welch was 2-for-4 with two RBI from the leadoff spot, while Sam Lane, Trenton Buchhorn, Brady McCoy, Ben Romines and Blake Wilson each had hits. Welch’s two hits helped extend his team-leading 14 game streak of reaching base to start the season and his collegiate career.

UT Tyler and the Wildcats will resume and conclude the two-game series with a 1 p.m. game game on Saturday. Patriot head coach Chris Bertrand enters the game with 97 career wins after Friday’s victory at his alma mater.
