TYLER – Junior infielder Trenton Buchhorn has been named the American Southwest Conference Hitter of the Week after an impressive performance at the plate for the Patriots in a three-game sweep of the Crusaders from Mary Hardin-Baylor in ASC play.

Buchhorn, a transfer from Tyler Junior College, continued his strong start to the season going 5-for-12 (.417) with seven RBI throughout the three-game appearance. Buchhorn had two doubles and a triple and scored three runs against the Cru as the Patriots improved to 9-3 on the season.

Buchhorn had his best performance in the third game, where the Patriots won 10-1 over the Cru where the Patriots entered the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 1-0. The Patriots then started to find offense with a leadoff double by Alex Bishop. Sam Lane then singled to put Bishop at third. Buchhorn then came to the plate and attempted a sacrifice bunt to squeeze Bishop home, but the throw by third baseman Robbie Gillen went wide into right field. This brought home not only Bishop, but also Lane and put Buchhorn at 2nd to make it 5-1. Buchhorn would finish the game 3-5 with a day-high 4 RBIs. He would advance to third on a flyout and then was brought home by a single by catcher Brady McCoy.

Buchhorn is leading the team in several categories with a .373 batting average, 19 hits on the season and 15 runs batted in.

Buchhorn and the Patriots will be in action on the road in Louisiana against Centenary after it was postponed due to weather earlier this season. The Patriots and Gents will face off on Wednesday at 5 in Shreveport.
