TYLER -- The UT Tyler baseball team totaled 10 hits, but could not get a runner home, falling 2-0 to the La Verne Leopards in game one of the NCAA Div. III West Regional on Wednesday.

The Patriots (34-11) left 10 runners stranded on base, and Leopards' (29-12) starter Brett Early totaled eight innings pitched, with four strikeouts while the La Verne defense was strong.

The Leopards scored their first run in the bottom of the second on a Jared Hovsepian single, and the second on a UT Tyler error in the sixth.

UT Tyler starter Michael Blevins was strong in the start, giving up just one earned-run, seven hits and totaling four strikeouts.  Sam Lane, Garrett Nelson, Reid Coover and Kevan House each totaled two hits in the loss.

The Patriots will now play at noon on Thursday against the loser of game two between Linfield and Trinity.
