Baseball Starts ASC Play With 7-1 Win over MC

TYLER-- The UT Tyler baseball team started American Southwest Congerence play with a 7-1 win over Mississippi College on Friday evening.  In the win, designated hitter Kevan House went an impressive 2 for 4 with onerun scored and two RBI.

The Patriots (12-4) go the scoring started in the bottom of the first, registering two bases-loaded walks off of Choctaws-starter Brooks Fortenberry, taking a 2-0 early lead.

UT Tyler added two more runs in the third,  with the big hit coming from T.J. Martin, who delivered a two run single, scoring Cayden Cunniff and House who reached on a single of his own.

The Patriots would add three more runs the rest of the way, scoring one in the fourth on a Jeff Kosta double, scoring Derek Smith.

In the seventh, House knocked in his pair of runs on a single to right-field, scoring Cunniff and Smith, making the score 7-0.

The Choctaws (6-8) would score one run in the ninth off of reliever Josh Holley, but that would be all MC could score, falling 7-1.

Patriots' starter Chance Cotton was a workhorse, throwing 110 pitches in eight innings of work, striking out five while walking four batters.

Cunniff finished with two hits and two runs scored, while teammate T.J. Martin knocked in three-runs in the win.

The Patriots and Choctaws will resume the series on Saturday with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
