TYLER -- The UT Tyler baseball and softball teams took time out earlier this semester to serve at the Boys and Girls Club/KLTV7 Day For Kids at Bergfeld Park in Tyler.

"The Day For Kids is one of our favorite events each year, because of the interaction with the kids and parents of our community", said head softball coach Mike Reed.

In 2011, more than 8,000 kids and their families enjoyed the Day For Kids, and even more turned out this year.

The baseball and softball teams set up a booth in which kids could practice their batting and pitching skills, as well as get autographs and baseball cards from the Patriots.

The Boys and Girls Club of East Texas is open to all children K-8th grades and provides what kids need most, a safe, loving, mentoring environment where they can have fun and be themselves.
