RICHARDSON, TEXAS -- The American Southwest Conference announced the East Division All-Conference selections on Tuesday morning, and nine Patriots were announced to the lists.
Hayden Chick, Aaron McCain, Issac Tijerina, TJ Martin, Jack Barkley, and David Ring were selected as ASC East First Team, while Derek Miller and Michael Blevins were named Newcomer and Freshman of the Year, respectively.
UT Tyler was the top hitting team in the ASC, and Chick led the way, batting .416 with 72 hits, three home runs, and 33 RBI's. McCain was right behind him with an average of .371 with four home runs and 46 RBI's, mostly from the lead-off spot.
Tijerina proved to be a solid addition to the Patriot lineup this season batting .367 with 41 RBI's. Ring, in his second season for UT Tyler, batted .325 with two home runs and 25 RBI's. Martin had a solid year at the plate, but a stellar season manning the hot corner for the Patriots, as he held a fielding percentage of .955, but contributed with a solid .369 average at the plate.
Barkley was the Patriots No. 1 starter for most of the season and he proved worthy of that title, going 10-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 13 games started. Barkley pitched a team-high 76.1 innings pitched and led the team with 28 strikeouts.
Miller led the conference in saves with 9 in his first season as the UT Tyler closer. In only 23.2 innings pitched, he was third on the team with 26 strikeouts with the majority of those coming in the ninth inning.
Blevins went 5-1 as a starter for the Patriots, recording a 4.13 ERA in 56.2 innings pitched.
Freshman Garratt Machacek was named to the ASC East Honorable Mention team, as he batted .288 for the Patriots with 16 RBI's in 104 at bats.
