TYLER – Softball infielder Joey Cronin and baseball pitchers
Matt Schimpf and Chad Sherman have been named to the 2011 Capital One/College
Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District teams, CoSIDA
announced on Thursday.
Capital One and CoSIDA sponsor the prestigious award to
recognize the nations’ top student-athletes for their combined performance on
the field and in the classroom.
Cronin, a sophomore from Celina, Texas, was named to the
softball first team. She has started all 45 of UT Tyler’s games so far this
season and is hitting .409 for the Patriots with 35 RBIs and seven home
runs. Cronin is a music major.
Schimpf and Sherman, both seniors, were both named to the
second team for baseball.
Schimpf is a kinesiology major who held down a 2.47 ERA
across 11 starts and 73 innings pitched for the season. The Arlington, Texas, native is 6-1 and has
struck out 45.
Sherman, from nearby Bullard, Texas, is a human resource
development major. Also making 11 starts
for the Patriots, he has a 1.49 ERA while allowing opponents to hit just
.210. With an 8-1 record, Sherman has
fanned a team and conference-high 95 batters on the season.
