TYLER –  The No. 5-ranked UT Tyler baseball team will host its final regular-season home series against McMurry this weekend at Irwin Field with the program honoring its 14-player senior class between doubleheader games on Saturday and having won 10 of its last 11 games.

The Patriots (28-5, 16-2 ASC) are atop the American Southwest Conference standings after taking two of three at Louisiana College two weeks ago, while McMurry (12-22, 6-12 ASC) lost two of three against Howard Payne last weekend at home. The Patriots did not play last week after having their midweek game at Centenary canceled due to rain. UT Tyler will honor Cason Adams, Tim Hunter, Trenton Buchhorn, Cade Suggs, Brady McCoy, Reese Read, Hunter Palmer, Gunnar Quick, Chad Hayes, Cody Brown, Daniel Williams, Blake Brunnemann, Dalton Smith and Kyle Broussard on Senior Day prior to the final game on Saturday. The Patriots are 16-2 at Irwin Field this season and have outscored their opponents by a 102-52 margin in those home games.

Adams (6-0) is scheduled to start the series finale for the Patriots after Brown (5-2) starts the 1 p.m. game against the War Hawks. Ryan Cheatham (7-0) takes the ball in the 6 p.m. series opener on Friday for the Patriots. Adams owns a 22-9 career record in four years at UT Tyler, including a 22-5 record after going 0-4 as a freshman. He has 41 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings of work this season, while Brown leads the team with 50 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings. Brown is in his first season at UT Tyler after pitching at TJC and Sam Houston before transferring for his senior season. Cheatham is also in his first year on the Irwin Field mound after pitching at TJC the past two seasons. A Whitehouse native, Cheatham has recorded 39 strikeouts and has a 2.50 ERA in 57 2/3 innings. The UT Tyler starting rotation is 10-0 at home this season and has allowed only 27 earned runs in 88 innings in front of their home fans. As a staff, the Patriot pitchers have a combined 3.10 ERA with 233 strikeouts in 281 1/3 total innings. Reese Read (2-1) leads the team with seven saves and has a 1.76 ERA in 16 appearances, while Miles Thomas is 2-0 and has a save and Hunter Palmer (1-1) has three saves and leads the team with 17 appearances.

Daniel Williams leads the Patriots with a .432 batting average, 57 total hits and 36 RBI coming into the series against the War Hawks. A designated hitter from Katy, Williams has recorded 16 multi-hit and 10 multi-RBI performances this season and is on a five-game hitting streak. He also leads the Patriots with five home runs and is tied with Trenton Buchhorn with nine doubles. Buchhorn is hitting .424 with 42 hits and 28 RBI, while Ben Romines is at .385 with 35 hits and 17 RBI.
