PINEVILLE, La. – UT Tyler senior Kyle Broussard drove in three runs in the game, but Louisiana College scored three runs in the ninth inning to take a 4-3 series opening win over the Patriots on Friday at Billy Allgood Field.

The Patriots (26-5, 14-2 ASC) had an eight-game winning streak snapped and lost for the first time after leading through six innings. UT Tyler came into the game with a 23-0 record after leading through six and a 19-0 record after having the advantage through eight. On Friday, the Patriots held a 3-1 lead through eight innings before the Wildcats got a single, hit-by-pitch and another single to load the bases with no outs. A double by Martin tied the game with no outs before a one-out wild pitch brought home the winning run for the Wildcats who improved to 18-10 overall and to 9-7 in conference play.

Reese Read (2-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and one hit-by-pitch. He would exit with runners on second and third and no outs before Chris Stodolka came in to record one out before throwing a wild pitch to allow the final run to score.

Broussard led the Patriots by going 2-for-3 with three RBI. The Tatum native gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a single down the right-field line to score Ben Romines who had hit a one-out double. In the seventh, Broussard gave the Patriots a 2-1 lead with a single to right field to score Daniel Williams who had led off with a single of his own. In the ninth, Broussard gave the Patriots a 3-1 advantage with a  sacrifice fly to right field. Broussard came into the game with five RBI this season before driving in the three runs on Friday.

UT Tyler starter Ryan Cheatham had six strikeouts and scattered five hits over seven innings in a no-decision. Cheatham, who is 7-0 on the season, threw 104 pitches and left with the game tied. Miles Thomas would strike out the only batter he faced and Hunter Palmer recorded two outs on six pitches in the eighth.

UT Tyler and LC both finished the game with eight hits each. Tim Hunter, Graham Welch, Williams, Romines, Jared Pauley and Josh Burns each had one hit. The two teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday to complete the three-game ASC series.
