GEORGETOWN – The No. 18-ranked UT Tyler baseball team jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 7-3 non-conference win over Southwestern on Tuesday at Rockwell Field.

The Patriots (6-1) extended a five-game winning streak with the victory while Max Page (1-0) won his first start of the year and the bullpen has now thrown 19 straight scoreless innings to start the season with Blake Brunnemann, Hunter Palmer and Miles Thomas throwing four scoreless frames against the Pirates (4-3). Thomas recorded his first save with two scoreless and three strikeouts.

Daniel Williams, Trenton Buchhorn and Jared Pauley all left Georgetown with three hits for the Patriots who had 13 hits which is the fifth double-digit hit performance through seven games. Williams went 3-for-6 in the game, including hitting his second home run of the season. Buchhorn was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Pauley went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

A sophomore left-hander from Montgomery, Page finished the game with three strikeouts and scattered five hits in five innings of work to earn his fourth win. He allowed only two walks and three runs before turning the ball over to the bullpen which has been lights out this season. Palmer would give the Patriots two innings with one strikeout and gave up only one hit before Thomas secured the save.

The Patriots took advantage of three straight walks to start the game by Tim Hunter, Gunnar Quick and Alex Bishop and would strike for their first run when Williams singled to right field. A batter later it was Buchhorn’s turn as he hit an RBI infield single for a 2-0 lead. A sacrifice fly by Brady McCoy made it a three-run lead and then Pauley stepped up and drove in a run by pulling a pitch to right field to end a four-run, three-hit first inning.

SU would score all three of its runs in the fourth on two hits, but the Patriots answered quickly with Buchhorn hitting another RBI single in the top of the fifth. The final run of the game came with Williams pulling pitch over the right-field wall for his second home run of the season and fifth in two years with the Patriots.

Williams is now hitting .581 with 18 hits and 11 RBI through seven games, while Buchhorn has 11 hits for the Patriots who are hitting .325 as a team and have outscored their opponents by a 38-18 margin this season.

UT Tyler will open American Southwest Conference play this weekend when it travels to Brownwood to play Howard Payne in a three-game set starting at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots and Yellow Jackets will conclude the series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
