TYLER – The UT Tyler baseball team will host Denison with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Irwin Field in a nonconference matchup. Denison, a member of the North Coast Athletics Conference, is making their way through Texas where they are facing several American Southwest Conference teams before heading back to Ohio to start their conference schedule.
The Patriots (12-6) have won nine of the 12 games hosted at home this season and will look to improve on that when meeting up with the Big Red (5-1). Head Coach Chris Bertrand is currently at 99 wins in his time with the Patriots and will be looking for win No. 100 in tomorrow’s matchup. Bertrand is in his fourth season with the Patriots and has compiled an impressive 99-56 overall record. He has helped lead the Patriots to ASC Conference titles and along with his staff was named ASC Coaching Staff of the Year this past season.
Two new polls were released today with the Patriots being nationally ranked in both of them; D3baseball.com has UT Tyler ranked at No. 18 in their Top 25 poll where they had previously been ranked No. 16. ABCA/Collegiate Baseball has them at No. 20 in the Top 30 poll. The Patriots are the second highest ranked Texas team behind Trinity University (16-4) who is ranked two/three respectively in both polls.
Several Patriots had big games last weekend in the series against Concordia-Texas with the team racking up a total of 20 hits and eight RBI. Alex Bishop went 4-8 throughout the series with his biggest game coming in game two where he went 3-4 with a two-out RBI and helped lead the team to a 7-5 victory. On the mound, Nate Imig pitched two innings to pick up a win, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out four.
After the weekday face off with Denison, the Patriots (4-2 ASC) will be back in ASC play this weekend taking on Texas-Dallas in a three-game series on the road. Follow along with the Patriots at home and on the road by checking out our Twitter, @uttylerpatriots.
