Cade Bowen is entering his third season as the UT Tyler pitching coach.  He served last season under former Head Coach Chris Bertrand in the same capacity.

Bowen’s 2016 staff locked down opposing offenses only giving up 168 earned runs in 417.2 innings pitched for a 3.62 ERA, and holding them to a .243 avg. against while striking out 346 batters and only walking 175. He played a crucial role in the development of All-Conference performers Cody Brown, Ryan Cheatham, Cason Adams, Reese Read and Miles Thomas.  Brown and Cheatham would also be honored as members of All-Region Teams and Cody Brown would sign a professional baseball contract after the season with the Utica Unicorns of the United Shore Professional Baseball League.

“Coach Bowen does an unbelievable job of developing our pitchers mentally and physically to be successful,” said Porche.  “Those guys down in that bullpen trust him and his ability to get them game ready, and I wouldn’t want anyone else in charge of our pitchers and their development.”

Bowen joins the program after two seasons on the LSU Shreveport coaching staff, where he also pitched for the Pilots in 2011.  As a senior, Bowen made 25 appearances and posted a 2.12 ERA, striking out 38 in only 29.2 innings of work.

“I am very excited to watch Cade and his work with our pitching staff,” Said Coach Porche.  “We have learned from and been around a lot of the same people, and branch from the same coaching tree starting at LSUS.  I know the type of competitor Cade was as a player, and am excited about watching the development of our pitchers as they are immersed in that same competitive culture working with him every day.”
