Wes Bloomquist

Wes Bloomquist is in his third year as the Sports Information Coordinator at the University of Texas at Tyler where he oversees communication efforts for UT Tyler's 17 men's and women's athletic programs.

A 13-year veteran of sports journalism, his daily objectives include media and public relations, previewing and recapping events through press releases and content development, using social media to reach audiences, writing, graphic design and filming features and statistical reporting through www.uttylerpatriots.comAlso an adjunct Sports Communication lecturer at UT Tyler, he also develops promotional and informative content for the video boards at baseball, basketball, softball and volleyball games. In his first year in Tyler, the Patriot athletic programs were an incredible 210-68-5 in team competition sports along with 10 teams advancing to the NCAA Division III postseason. In two seasons at UT Tyler, Bloomquist has helped promote 19 All-Americans, four national championships, 35 all-region selections and advanced UT Tyler onto the national media stage when he filmed and positioned a Sam Lane diving catch highlight on ESPN's #SCtop10 on Super Bowl Sunday. 

For the previous five years before his role at UT Tyler, Bloomquist enjoyed his time as the Director of New Media and Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Angelo State University where he covered baseball, men's basketball, football, women's soccer, volleyball and golf. 

Bloomquist is a three-time CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing contest winner after earning the award in player feature writing (2013), game reporting (2014) and general feature writing (2015). He filmed and produced highlight videos which earned #SCtop10 during the 2013 and 2014 football seasons. He also covered head coach Kevin Brooks' baseball program at the NCAA Division II College World Series and at three regional tournaments and coach Chris Beard's basketball team which advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 in 2015. He promoted Angelo State basketball player Kenny Williams to the second round of the 2014 State Farm Dark Horse Dunker competition through the use of video, writing and graphic work and has wrote numerous stories which gained attention throughout local, regional and national publications.

Prior to his athletic communication experience, Bloomquist worked as a sports writer at the Duncan Banner and Victoria Advocate. He was the assistant sports editor at the Duncan Banner in Oklahoma and then covered local sports at the Victoria Advocate. Along with his journalism background, he also worked as a realtor in Georgetown for two years before moving back into sports journalism at ASU. He also has freelance writing experience with the Austin American-Statesman, San Antonio Express-News and Williamson County Sun. 

The Georgetown native graduated from UT Tyler in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and then earned a master's degree in communication from Angelo State University in 2012.
