Andrew Cage

Andrew Cage enters his fifth year as the Head of the award winning Athletic Training Department at the University of Texas at Tyler.  Prior to his time at UT Tyler, Andrew served as the Interim Head Athletic Trainer at NCAA D1 program Morgan State. Andrew will be entering the year working with volleyball, baseball, and spirit squad.

Prior to working at Morgan State, Cage completed his Masters of Education in Athletic Training at the University of Virginia in 2011. Andrew worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Cavaliers football and women’s rowing programs. During this time, Andrew assisted in providing medical care for a Cavalier rowing team that won the ACC Championship and finished 6th in the NCAA Division I standings.

In addition to working clinically, Andrew has presented at National and Regional Sports Medicine Conferences on topics relevant to modern athletic training issues. He has used these opportunities to spread awareness of evidence based practice concepts within clinical athletic training settings, and continues to seek opportunities to add to current literature within the profession.

To this end, Andrew also serves as the Chair of the American Southwest Conference Athletic Training Group, and a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association Free Communications and Research Committee.  Andrew has also sought out volunteer opportunities, working as an athletic trainer with organizations such as Special Olympics Texas and the Northeast Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Andrew is also an American Red Cross CPR/AED/1st Aid Instructor, a NASM certified Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist and Fitness Nutrition Specialist, ICTA Certified Cupping Therapist and certified by RockTape in RockTape Blades and Performance Movement Techniques.

Cage is no stranger to the American Southwest Conference, earning his Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training from Texas Lutheran University in 2010.
